Alissa Bell has been with the Center for Disaster Risk Policy for over four years and currently serves as a Program Coordinator. She teaches as an adjunct instructor in the Emergency Management and Homeland Security Program. She also served for two years as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in the Kingdom of Swaziland. Alissa currently works as a Program Coordinator and Instructor. She has developed and taught several classes including Terrorism and Security in Africa, International Terrorism Policy, and Women, Disasters, and Conflict.
Additionally, Alissa serves as the program manager for FSU VOST (Virtual Operations Support Team). She also recruits, trains, and directs over 100 student volunteers in the utilization of social media for emergency management. As VOST manager she has worked directly with FEMA representatives and the Florida Division of Emergency Management to coordinate VOST response to various disasters including Hurricanes Hermine, Matthew, Joaquin, Harvey, and Irma. She has facilitated trainings for emergency management professionals on VOST for the Governor’s Hurricane Conference.Faculty and Staff
